Last Week of Work!

Yesterday a bunch of us went to the Rugby Sevens, and it was such an awesome time.  We went last year as well, we "acquired" tickets after hanging out in one of the outside tent areas for an hour or so.

Last week was a group of special needs kids that came in Thursday and Friday, it was also a nice camp.

This week is going to be super busy, I'm staying overnight tomorrow and Tuesday.  We are in the public campsite next to the ocean, it should be ok.  We are double booked with camps so we (Elena, Ruth, and I) are pretty much going solo for the 4 days and 3 nights with 31 kids and 2 teachers.

Tonight The Lapsap Band confirmed a gig on April 2, so we are scrambling to dial in our songs since we won't have much time at all this week, I think we can pull together 2 hours of stuff, but it won't be our finest performance.

I'm within a day or two of buying my ticket home as well, I keep scoping them out and I just need to pull the trigger on a round tripper...

Random Iphone Photos from last fall 2009

These were taken on Lantau or in the New Territories in Wan Tsai

Nepal PIcs from Elena

We had a day off today, the school coming in Tuesday canceled because of the air pollution.  We were able to prepare everything for tomorrow yesterday and get today off, I was really glad about this.  So many times we'd go in just to do stupid busy work labor that doesn't amount to anything other than wasting time and pissing the staff off.  So now we are able to recharge a little bit, we have a special needs camp coming tomorrow and Friday.  Then there's the rugby 7's this weekend, next week we are double booked on camps, but at least it's our last week with kids.  It's going to be pretty crazy.  A week from this Friday, on April 2 we might be playing a gig at the local Turkish restaurant, just like we did last year.  We are scrambling a little to get stuff together, but I think we can get 2 hours of stuff worked out by then.

I also did a final confirmation for working 3 shifts back at ALE.  It's going to be great working with the old gang again, it's pretty awesome that I will be in the field with about 6 staff that were there when I last worked.  There is also a little bit of training at Instructor University and then a PCS re-certification when I get back for a couple days.

I've uploaded all of Elena's pictures to my Picasa account, here's the slide show.

Beer dash photos coming soon...

Goat Party Cancelled

All week we were planning on getting a whole goat to cook up on the roof of our flat.  I was collecting money 100 HKD from each person and last night Khem and I were going to go get it and bring it back.  However, after Chinese New Year the slaughterhouse was out of them I guess so we tried to make other plans.  It's frustrating, we had at least 15 confirm to come and I had collected money from almost half. Oh well, next time

Last night we were trying to get together a plan for acquiring some momos and fresh chicken.  Again this plan fell through, Khem is working today, but everyone else is off, so there is no one to buy any of the stuff for us.  We'll have to do it after everyone gets off work tomorrow, it should be fine.  We only have a half day tomorrow, I'm hoping Khem can get the food and stuff without any help because no one will be able to go into Jordan to get any of the Nepalese food and help him bring it back.

In other news Jer and Snowy are getting married

Camp over now time to sleep...

Kids left today after one of the better camps I've done, kids were good, teachers were great, we had tons of support staff and a coordinator that could actually coordinate and not have to lead a group at the same time.  We played a bunch of music in Mui Wo last night.

I haven't been posting much through Posterous lately, i've pretty much been just going direct from twitter or blogger for updates, I still like Posterous, but i think i'll mostly use it for travel updates and updates from my iphone.

Getting Busier

Last week we had a corporate group in for teambuilding, then I ended the week supporting a camp of 60 kids in beach games and BBQ stuff.

Yesterday was the 2nd annual Lantau Buffalo Association 5K Beer Run, we fielded a team.  Six of us dressed up in yellow PFDs and orange climbing helmets with matching shirts and shorts and then added two mega phones for extra awesomeness.  Everyone in the race definitely knew when we were coming and going from each station :)
We actually won a prize for something...none of us have the clearest recollection of why they handed us an envelope with 500 HKD in it but we weren't complaining.  We guess it was for best dressed team, best team spirit, or best chant, there might be photos coming, we didn't take any but the organizers might be sending some out.

Today we just prepped for the school coming in for 4 days and 3 nights, I'm also moving more stuff over to the flat.  I've worked out a deal, because there isn't enough room for the current staff, where I basically get paid to not sleep in my bed at the staff flat and instead stay at the other flat.  Irvin is coming with the van to help move things soon.

I'm half way through the month now, but there are still 3 weeks of camps left.  Time is ticking down now though

Sometimes

I get to thinking that this banjo I have here sounds alright, then I really listen to it and hear it's empty broomstick tone and wet paper towel ring, then I wish I hadn't listened deeper... Anyone want a toy that makes banjo noises?

I guess this means I've brushed off my rust and am being limited by this instrument again...I've played banjo less than 10 times in the last 6 months, but about 5 times in the last 3 days and I'm just about back to where I was a year ago, still hoping to get where I was about 10 months ago :)

I'm pretty happy that I'm playing again though, I never would have guessed that all four of the 2009 flat mates would be back together in 20-10 or that Lapsap would be reunited, it's great when things come together

Missing Comments

I've been playing around with the templates thinking that when I changed it to the current one I lost some comments, but it doesn't seem to be the case.  Google's suggestions didn't work and going back to the old one didn't bring them back so, I found this link which seems to explain it.  I guess I need to chill on it for a bit...

Thanks for the reports. I've looked through the most recent reports in this thread and have noticed that a number of comments originally reported as missing are no appearing on your respective blogs.

We're doing some maintenance on our commenting backend which is the reason behind these discrepancies, but soon your comment counts should re-appear on their own. If they haven't within 24 hours though, please let us know.

Thanks for your patience,

The New Season

It's been a busy week,
Monday - Canopy set up and make preparations for the camp on Tuesday that I was coordinating
Tuesday - Big Group welcome with 60 3rd graders and lead a group of 20 kids through biking, sand sculpture, and eco-scavenger hunt
Wednesday - Take down canopy, set up gorge and run a training on it, Irvin set up a Tyrolean traverse
Thursday - Woke up late....turned off alarm and went back to sleep...oops, ran in to work and ran a coasteering training, then ran biking in Mui Wo training in the evening
Friday - Camp was rescheduled so we worked on prep for upcoming camps then I ran a Tree I.D. session
Saturday - really lazy day, but worth it, maybe they should be paying me more with the amount of staff training I'm doing, also made pizza, think I'm getting the hang of it, just need a pizza stone for it to really come out good.

I think I'm waiting tables tomorrow, just over 12 months here and I've been able to completely avoid this until now, that's the deal for getting today off, it's a half day so it shouldn't be too bad.

Next week is:
Mon - Rope practice
Tues - Cheung Chau
Wed - Belay at the abseil
Thurs & Fri - ??

The Lapsap Band has been practising every day in preparation of taking their show on the road in random places across Lantau and Hong Kong. I'll have to get some recordings or video up soon
